The Morgan Opera House Summer Theatre presents the children's classic, “Alice in Wonderland.”
The adaptation, written by Michele Vacca, features 15 characters in two acts.
Artistic director Barbara Murphy has cast 13 children ranging in age from 6 to 15 in the play.
Larissa Furness of Moravia will play the title role.
She is a veteran of the Morgan Opera House program and has also appeared in school productions. Theresa Miller and Lynda Balloni are featured as the Mad Hatter and the March Hare.
Michaela Groth and Julie Ryerson have been cast as the King and Queen of Hearts. All are MOH veterans.
The White Rabbit will be played by newcomer Juliette Zygarowicz. Bethany Murphy will take on
dual roles as the Caterpillar and the Cook. Grace Bassett will
play the Duchess, and 6-year-old Amelia Taylor will play the Dormouse.
Liam Sloan and Skyler Maassen will portray Tweedledum and Tweedledee; Liam will double as Humpty Dumpty, and Skyler will double as The Knave.
The Cheshire Cat will be played by Monica Groth.
The script is written with a narrator, who not only tells the story as it progresses, but becomes involved with the zany characters as they romp through Wonderland. The role of narrator will be played by Ally Murphy.
Southern Cayuga junior, Vienna Farlow, is assistant director.
Farlow was a participant in this year's Teen Extreme Playwright Project at Ithaca's Kitchen Theatre.
Morgan Opera House is on
the third floor of a building originally constructed in 1899 to house
the library, the jail and the thea-ter.
The Tudor-style building is in the center of the village, and the second floor continues to house the library.
The third-floor theater features a raked stage floor surrounded by a painted tin proscenium and period velvet drape.
Its excellent acoustics make
it ideal for work with a young
cast.
