Schweinfurth to show ‘Made in NY' artist
Artist Anita Welych of Syracuse, an exhibiting artist in “Made in NY 2006,” will present a gallery talk at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center, 205 Genesee St., Auburn.

Welych will speak about what it means to be a contemporary artist in central New York. The event is free and open to the public.

Also on view in Gallery Julius until Aug. 28, is “Graphic Design & New Media by students from Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.”

Suggested admission is $3 for adults. Children under 12 and members are free.

Herman Ave. parents can pick up packets

Herman Avenue Elementary School parents may pick up information packets for the 2006-2007 school year at the school office from 7:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, and Thursday, Aug. 17.

Any packets not picked up by 3 p.m. on Aug. 17. will be mailed.

S. Cayuga school board to meet today

The Southern Cayuga Central School District Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in the planetarium classroom at the high school.

The board is expected to vote on the appointment of four teachers and several other positions. School board meetings are open to the public.

Orchestra benefit to be held Sunday

Linda Case and Pablo Cohen will be the featured performers at a benefit for the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra at Dano's Heuriger on Seneca Lake at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13.

Cost for the dinner and chamber orchestra performance are $75, and seating is limited.

Cayuga meeting time changed

The regular village of Cayuga board meeting for the month of August will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 6205 Railroad St.

Meetings are typically held the second Wednesday of each month. This change is for August only.

Gas lease rights are subject of seminar

Rural landowners considering leasing their property to natural gas companies for exploration of potential reservoirs can make better informed decisions, when the Cornell Cooperative Extension holds a informational seminar on the topic.

The seminar, titled “To Lease or Not to Lease: Is a Gas Lease Right for Your Land” will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Skaneateles High School auditorium.

Providing perspectives about natural gas exploration and leasing or property owners in the Skaneateles Lake Watershed, the session is free and open to the public.

West Middle School to hold orientation

West Middle School will hold an orientation for incoming sixth-graders and other new students, along with their parents or guardians later this month.

The session will take place Aug. 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the middle school auditorium.
