Food pantry needs volunteers
The Genoa Food Pantry is open 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. the third Saturday of every month, at the United Church of Genoa, 10070 Main St. in Genoa. This pantry is open to all residents of the Southern Cayuga School district. Emergency help is also available. Call the Rev. Larry Bell at 497-3005 to volunteer or for information.

Frontenac group plans dinner

The Frontenac Museum and Historical Society will hold its annual dinner at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23, at the American Legion Hall, Schobey Street in Union Springs. Advance reservations are required by Aug. 15 and may be made by contacting Pat Deller at 889-5187, Pat Hill at 889-5021 or Pat Kimber at 889-5875. The cost of the dinner is $10 if paid in advance; $12 if payment is made at the door. The dinner will be followed by speaker Col. H. Eugene Carr, who will recall highlights of his service to the country during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Roberts coming to Syracuse Stage

Syracuse Stage announces that five-time Emmy award-winner Doris Roberts will lead the cast for its Old Time Radio Theatre, Syracuse Stage's annual fundraiser, to be held at 8 p.m. Oct. 20. Roberts, 75, who for nine seasons played the role of Marie Barone, the beloved but meddlesome mother on the popular CBS series “Everybody Loves Raymond,” will play Sylvia in an adaptation of Clare Boothe's classic satire, “The Women,” staged and performed in the style of old-time radio.

General tickets are $50, with patron tickets (including cocktails and dinner at Horizons and the post-show cast party) available for $200. General tickets go on sale Aug. 15, at the Syracuse Stage Box Office. For tickets call 443-3275 or visit at SyracuseStage.org.

Seneca Cayuga announces awards

Seneca Cayuga ARC#'s annual dinner meeting was held recently. Election of directors and officers was the first order of business.

Rose Palmieri was elected president, with John E. Becker II as vice president, William Parker as treasurer and Calvin Gee as secretary. Elected to two-year terms as directors were John E. Becker II, Carlo Frappolli, Calvin Gee and Rob Gould.

Three individuals were recognized as “Shining Stars:” Bob Pethybridge, Sylvia Kellogg and Rob Gould.

The Community Partnership Award, was presented to the First Church of the Nazarene (Auburn).

The ARC operates the Gordon Eadie Activity Center from the church. Recipient of the Employer of the Year Award was ITT Corporation/Goulds Pumps, Inc. for their outstanding commitment in maintaining and creating employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

The Special Recognition Award was given to Bennett Bolt Works, Inc. of Jordan, for providing meaningful jobs for up to 15 people on a regular basis.

Pam Wilson, of Auburn, was honored with the Mary Moreno Volunteer of the Year Award for her work with FAME (Fingerlakes Artists, Musicians and Entertainers).

The Paula S. James Award, honoring an employee who consistently demonstrates the personal qualities of compassion, caring, responsibility and commitment to their job and to the agency, was given to Joyce Ammons, service coordinator.
