Each Friday, The Citizen features someone in education from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks:
This week, we spotlight Jana Mlodzianowski, a student at Weedsport High School.
Q. What is the most challenging part of being a student?
A. Managing time for school work with extracurricular activities. Even over the summer, I have to balance taking children's literature from Cayuga Community College with play rehearsals and having fun with my friends. I'm also working on my Girl Scout Gold Award Project.
Q. What are your favorite subjects in school?
A. I love chorus and enjoy Spanish and French.
Q. What are some of your favorite books?
A. “The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” series by Rebecca Wells, and “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie.
Q. School year: Too short, too long or just right?
A. It always feels like it's too long, but I guess we learn everything we have to. I definitely wouldn't want it any longer!
Q. When you finish school, what would you like to do?
A. Go to college and study child psychology.
Q. Fill in the blank. I have the most fun in my _______ class. Why?
A. Chorus, because the teacher is really funny, and I get to hang out with my friends.
Q. Fill in the blank. The best teacher I ever had was _______ because ________.
A. Mrs. Palombella for second grade, because she's really great, and I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Some of my favorite high school teachers are Mrs. Matson, Mrs. Woodworth and Mr. Lobello. I was also in Mr. Bleakley's study hall in ninth grade, and he let us build rockets and do other cool stuff.
Q. What's your favorite non-school activity you are involved in?
A. I've been involved with the Auburn Players Community Theater for the last five years, and it's been a really great experience.
Q. Do you have any fun plans for the summer?
A. I had a friend from England visit, and we went to Niagara Falls and New York City. I spent another week in New York City for a Girl Scout Leadership Institute, and I'm in the Auburn Player's show “The Floating Princess,” which will be held at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. today, at Hoopes Park.
