The Auburn Doubledays' offensive arsenal was once again on display Thursday in Vermont. The Doubledays recorded 14 hits, the second double-digit hit count of the series, and overcame a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Lake Monsters 9-5 at Centennial Field.
Vermont jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first off Auburn starter Chris Reddout who lasted only 3 2-3 innings. Reliever Chase Lirette shut out the Lake Monsters for four innings and Dennis Bigley, who still hasn't allowed a run this season, pitched a perfect ninth.
The Doubledays batted around in the fifth inning after finally getting to Vermont starter Erik Arnesen. Luke Hopkins provided a two-run triple in the inning while Ben Zeskind and Matt Lane delivered run-scoring singles.
Auburn added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth with the help of another two-run triple, this time off the bat of Brian Jeroloman. Matt Liuzza also drove in a run in the inning.
Vermont was also careless in the field, recording five errors. With the win, Auburn takes the series and ends a drought in which they've dropped three consecutive series.
Lirette (1-1) earned the win while Zeskind led the offense, going 3-for-5. Adam Calderone, Jeroloman and Liuzza each had two hits for Auburn.
