Murphy competes in teen pageant
Kathryn Murphy, daughter of Kevin and Chalyce Murphy of Owasco, will be competing in the Miss Teen of New York on Aug. 4-6 in Rochester. The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash scholarship and a $1,000 U.S. Saving bond.
Murphy is a junior at Skaneateles High School and has been accepted into the New Vision Medical program at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
She plans on attending medical school to practice oncology.
Rotarians help Scout with project
Brendon Broadwell, who is working toward his requirements to become an Eagle Scout, prepares to show his leadership by guiding his troop in weatherproofing and improving the existing look-out over the natural wet-land area behind the Cato-Meridian Elementary School.
This is a great place to observe nature and wildlife in the Cato area.
The project is financed by the Rotarians who donated money for the materials he used.
They also donated a new stove for the kitchen of the CIMVAC Ambulance Service.
Theater camp forms available
Musical Theater Adventure Camp is still taking applications.
The deadline for the Cortland Repertory Theatre#'s adventure camp “Showstoppers and Superstars” is fast approaching, but a few slots remain open.
The camp will be held from July 31 to Aug. 4, with a final presentation taking place on the morning of Aug. 5.
The program is open to kindergarten through fifth graders in the 2005-06 school year and will be held at the Homer Center for the Arts, on Main Street in Homer. Application cost is $100 per child with a limit of two fees per family.
For more information or to pick up an application form, call the CRT office at (607) 753-6161 or visit the office at 37 Franklin St. during regular business hours. Application deadline is Saturday, July 29.

Several local residents are among about 130 incoming transfer students at SUNY Oswego who have received $1,000 Merit Awards.
They are: from Auburn, Kayla Calkins of Derby Avenue, who attended Cayuga Community College; Nicole E. Detomaso of Liberty Street, who attended Bryant and Stratton of Syracuse; Jason E. Hoskins of Elizabeth Street, who attended Cayuga Community College; James W. Vanarsdale of Fourth Avenue, who attended Cayuga Community College; Jessica C. Walsh of Easterly Avenue, who attended Cayuga Community College; and Denise L. Weldon of Franklin Street, who attended SUNY Cortland.

€ Port Byron, Katharine Meyer, Jessica L. Nicolucci and Rebecca L. Reese, who last attended Cayuga Community College.
