The Auburn Public Theater is headed to New York!
All right, not the theater itself, or even the people who formed it. But Mike Dugan's one-man foray into the world of relationships, “Men Fake Foreplay,” is
slated for an Off Broadway production under the direction of Bob Balaban. The play closes its Auburn run 8 p.m. this Friday and Saturday. For reservations and to save yourself a trip to the Big Apple, call 253-6669. And to learn more, see my review in Thursday's edition of “Go.”
APT is also holding a summer youth workshop beginning July 24, with classes taught by professional actors Mario X. Soto and Peter Daddabbo. Call the theater for details.
A bold and innovative experiment concludes this week at Ithaca's Hangar Theatre. “Bloodlines: The Children of Argos” is artistic director Kevin Moriarty's adaptation of five Greek tragedies into a pair of plays which run in repertory. The acting is outstanding; the direction is crisp and sharp, and the technical work is exemplary. Anyone with more than a passing interest in the possibilities of theater owes it to himself to see these plays.
Another bold innovation at Hangar is the scheduling of “pay what you can” performances for the summer season. To learn more, contact Hangar at (607) 273-4497.
Syracuse Stage is still running “Menopause the Musical.” The play has developed into something of a cult phenomenon as more than 35,000 tickets have been sold to date. The run has now been extended to July 30. It is very funny and well-worth the trip.
Yvonne Hassett, of Absolute Dance Center, is offering a summer Creative Arts Program focusing on dance and musical theater. Registration is open from July 10 to 15. For more information, call 253-0067.

The Kitchen Theatre in Ithaca closes its season with the original romantic musical “Angles of the Sun.” Call (607) 273-4497 or visit online at www.kitchentheatre.org for tickets or information.
