When Mike Dugan performed his one-man show, “Men Fake Foreplay,” at the Auburn Public Theater in the spring, there was a New York producer in the audience. That producer has decided to stage an Off Broadway production of the comedy to be directed by Bob Balaban, who will be in Auburn to workshop the play with Dugan.
Central New York audiences will have another chance to see the show over the next two weekends, as Dugan brings “Foreplay” back to APT for four performances Friday through July 22.
Dugan cut his comedy teeth at New York#'s Catch A Rising Star, alongside the likes of Jon Stewart and Chris Rock. In 1994 he received an Emmy for his writing on HBO's “Dennis Miller Live.” He has toured as an opening act for Roy Orbison, Ricki Lee Jones, Chuck Berry and Harry Belafonte, and is one of the few comics to have performed on “The Tonight Show” with both Johnny Carson and Jay Leno.
He published the book, “Men Fake Foreplay - And Other Lies That Are True” and eventually adapted it into his one man show.
Balaban is best know for his work as an actor in such films as “Gosford Park,” “A Mighty Wind” and “Best in Show” and for his recurring role as an NBC executive on “Seinfeld.”
