Auburn Doubledays' pitcher Dan O'Brien continued to struggle on the mound, allowing what would turn out to be the game-winning runs as Hudson Valley defeated Auburn 3-1 in a game on Saturday at Hudson Valley. It is the second-straight loss for the Doubledays.
Auburn starter Zach Dials turned in a solid performance, allowing one run in four innings, but O'Brien entered in relief in the fifth inning and surrendered two runs and recorded just two outs.
O'Brien couldn't find the plate as he walked two batters in the innings as well.
The Doubledays offense wasn't exactly potent either against the Renegades.
Hudson Valley starter Lewis Rollins allowed just two hits in four innings and reliever Matthew Falk threw two scoreless frames.
Auburn didn't have any trouble getting runners on base, as at least one Doubleday reached in every inning but the top of the first. The Doubledays struggled getting the runners home as they went 2-for-17 with runners on base and 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Auburn's only run came in the seventh, when Ben Zeskind hit his third triple of the year and Zach Kalter singled him home.
The Doubledays outhit the Renegades 8-6 and Luke Hopkins once again led the offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Javier Nieves and Seth Overbey combined to throw 3 2-3 scoreless inning of relief.
With an 0-for-5 day, Scott Campbell broke his streak of 16 games in which he's reached base.
