Officials surveyed flood damage from Wednesday's heavy downpours in the town of Cato and the village of Meridian Saturday morning.
Cayuga County Emergency Management Director Brian Dahl, Cayuga County Sheriff Rob Outhouse, U.S. Rep. James Walsh, R-Onondaga, representatives of the town and village's and fire department leadership, made the tour between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
They surveyed a couple of homes that had significant floodwater damage to their basements. They also surveyed government-owned property that sustained some damage.
The Cimar park has water ruts and sports fields that need to be repaired, Dahl said.
Luckily, government property does not have “major, major property damage,” he added.
Private residences were affected more severely, he said.
Auburn received four inches of rain Saturday, and other areas received even more. Cato and Meridian were the hardest-hit areas in the county.
Road construction on Route 370 was blamed for higher rates of basement flooding - as high as four feet in some homes. Route 370 also was shut to traffic for some time.
