Two weeks ago, a P-80 jet plane thrilled Auburnians when it buzzzed over the city. The plane landed at the Rome Army Air Field, and it was learned the pilot was First Lt. Thomas Van Riper, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Warren VanRiper of 28 Easterly Ave.

CAYUGA COUNTY - An old quarry on the Aurelius-Springport town line has been listed by the state Department of Environmental Conservation as a hazardous substance waste disposal site. County Solid Waste Director Bruce Natale said the Aurelius site is across Town Line Road from a Springport state superfund site.

They floated Saturday night. Nine or ten boats, some motorcraft, others kayaks, approached the South Dock of the Owasco Yacht Club. There were even a few ducks to witness The Rev. James Enright, prison chaplain and former pastor of St. Mary's Church in Auburn, give the first ever “Blessing of the Boats,” on Owasco Lake.
