Haff pitches no-hitter to lead Auburn to win

Shannon Haff tossed a no-hitter and struck out 10 to lead the Auburn Xtreme 14-and-under softball team to a 14-4 win over Sandy Creek in Syracuse Fastpitch League opening day action this week.
Maggie Race led the offense with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs. Kelly Grinnell added a double, home run and four RBIs. Lorrie Bellnier and Meg Feocco added an RBI single. Brittany Lawler led an errorless defense with an unassisted double play.

Feocco and Erin Gordon combined to throw a no-hitter in the opener, but the Xtreme lost 6-5. Grinnell had two hits and two RBIs, and Gordon collected the other hit and an RBI.

In a doubleheader makeup, the Xtreme defeated Oneida 9-1 in the opener before losing 11-10 to ESM.

Leah Netti (double), Sarah Reese, Rachel Carbonaro and Brittany Cunningham paced the offense against Oneida with two hits each. Haley Jordan added an RBI single.

Jenna Shorkey, Rachel Giannone, Mollie Pinker and Carbonaro had two hits apiece, and Jessica VanGiesen slugged a two-run double in the loss to ESM.

Winning pitcher Kaylee Ladisair allowed just one hit in four innings pitched as the Xtreme 16-and-under squad defeated Chittenango 10-2 in Syracuse Fastpitch League action.

Jamie Bruno paced the offense with two hits, and Nikki Neagle (RBI), Samantha Bruno (double), Stefanie Spinney (RBI), Sarah Wild, Liz Daniels (RBI) and Stacy Fox each had a hit.

The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.

The Xtreme 18-and-under team tied Baldwsinville 6-6 in Oswego Fastpitch League action.

Sara Doan slugged a two-out, two-run double in the last inning as the game was halted by the time-limit rule.

Michelle Grassi and Gabe Palmieri (double) led the offense with three hits apiece. Brittany Babcock, Sarah Green and Kelley Horbal chipped in with two hits each. Shannon McCormick, Palmieri and Grassi each added an RBI.

Babcock pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits and striking out two.

The Xtreme lost the nightcap 3-0 despite three hits (double) from Kristy Piwinski. Palmieri (double) and Grassi had the only other hits. Horbal took the loss scattering eight hits and striking out six.
