A big inning turned out to be the difference for the Auburn Doubledays once again. Only this time, they were on the right side of the plate when it happened.
Matt Liuzza and Matt Lane hit back-to-back two-out doubles, and Brian Jeroloman added an RBI single in a three-run sixth inning that helped the Doubledays to a 5-3 victory over the Aberdeen Ironbirds Wednesday at Ripken Field.

Lane finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Luke Hopkins also had a two-hit game.

Shane Benson (2-1) pitched 5 1-3 innings and allowed just two runs and four hits while striking out three and walking two. Scott Byrnes got the final two outs in the ninth for his first save of the season.

Aberdeen struck first in the second inning after Zach Davis stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Doubledays tied the score in the fourth. Adam Calderone led off with a single and scored on a double by Lane.

The tie didn't last long, though. The Ironbirds scored in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back triples.

Auburn took the lead for good in the sixth, though, and tacked on another run in the eighth. Hopkins hit a one-out double, and Kelly Sweppenhiser singled him to third. Hopkins scored on a Lane sacrifice fly.
