Teen arrested on robbery charge
A 17-year-old was arrested Friday on the allegation that he robbed a 40-year-old leaving a Union Springs party with him July 1.

Edward L. Harmon, of 158 Cayuga St., Union Springs, has been charged by the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office with second-degree robbery.

Investigators believe money was Harmon's motive, Sheriff Rob Outhouse said. The male robbery victim suffered only minor injuries.

A witness reported the Center Street assault as it occurred early in the morning of Saturday, July 1, to the 911 Center. The victim said in his police interview he did not know his assailant, Outhouse said. No weapon was involved.

Witnesses led detectives to arrest Harmon, who is being held in the Cayuga County Jail on bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for 5 p.m. today in Springport Town Court.

Parade being held in Auburn Saturday

A state convention of 40 et 8 members being held this weekend in Auburn will feature a parade Saturday afternoon.

More than 100 members are expected Friday and Saturday for the annual convention, which is taking place at the Holiday Inn. A parade featuring members takes place at 4 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Fulton and Genesee streets.

The national title of 40 et 8 is to honor World War I soldiers who were transported to the front lines in French box cars that held either 40 men or 8 mules.

Construction closes Columbus Street

Road crews will be working on Columbus Street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the next three weeks, and they'll be letting only local traffic through.

Crews will redirect those traveling south from Arterial and north from Genesee to Orchard Street and Baker Avenue.

All north to south through traffic should use the Veteran's Memorial Highway or Washington Street for access to the Route 5 Arterial.

Officials suggest drivers add a few minutes to their travel time.
