Capanna drops out of race for Congress
Paloma Capanna, a Webster attorney, has withdrawn from the New York 25th District Congressional race. Capanna was undertaking a grassroots campaign for the seat currently held by nine-term Republican James Walsh.
Her candidacy would have created the need for a September primary against Democrat Dan Maffei.
In a statement, Maffei said a primary would have made it more difficult to unseat Walsh and he applauded Capanna for putting “the cause of beating James Walsh ahead of herself. She has put party unity first.” Capanna will support Maffei.
In fundraising, as of March 31, Capanna had raised $88,694, compared with $175,174 raised by Maffei and $501,825 raised by Walsh.
