Enrollment requires a desire to be knocked off your feet by Broadway dance and entertainment, whether as a student or as a member of the audience, and expect to want to stay after class.
“It is fantastic what happens,” said Sean McLeod, founder of the New York Institute of Dance and Education of Auburn, which is sponsoring the event. “We have Broadway and internationally acclaimed performers who will entertain right at tables' edge, in little old Auburn.”
Indeed, the Holiday Inn will be totally revamped to accommodate the two-week annual New York Dance Festival. Non-stop acting, singing and dancing lessons will be occurring, during which the masters will mix on stage with regional students of all experience levels.
Meanwhile, those who wish a more vicarious thrill, will be treated, with dinner or without, to shows of the likes the city rarely sees. Semi-formal to formal dress is required, which will only befit the theme of the first show.
The event kicks off with the “Song and Dance Man Gala” of The Rat Pack. World-class performers will celebrate the exciting era of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and Liza Minnelli.
Also available during the festival is an opportunity to watch incredibly talented actors as they rehearse, prior to a world tour, a production of “Othello.”
“I would like people to know this opportunity is there. Whether they are a person who wants to dance, to drum, to participate or sit back and be entertained - it's about the ownership of all of us to be able to have a cultural event of this magnitude in Auburn,” McLeod said.
