Auburn is America at its best, offering EVERY single sport and club you can name, churches of every denomination, fine schools both public and private with dedicated teachers, many of whom were raised here, tremendous national history, art, culture, four live theaters, eight dance schools, one of the finest YMCAs in the country, beautiful parks and a gorgeous lake in our backyard. I feel bad for those who say “Auburn has nothing,” and dare ask if you are unable to find some happiness here, will you be able to find it anywhere?.
Cayuga County is the only county with beach frontage on both the Great Lakes and the Finger Lakes. Believe It or Not!

" It doesn't take too much common sense to realize that allowing kids, who aren't even old enough to drive, to race their lawnmowers at high speeds along a parade route was an accident waiting to happen. It's too bad that the "adults" who participated with them were not more cautious. "

" Phyllis, first and foremost, I couldn't have put it any better than Mary Anne Chapin stated in her reply to your ignorant attack on the Moore family. No family should have to endure the pain and misery that this family is going through. No matter what one's occupation is, and no matter how good your insurance is, there are always added expenses that are not covered. You apparently have never had the misfortune of going through such an ordeal and until you walk into someone else's shoes, you need to truly keep your ignorant comments to yourself. I noticed you didn't sign your last name; I wouldn't either with an assinine letter such as yours. You truly need to sit back and hope and pray that some day you or your loved ones don't have to experience what the Moore family is at the present time. I must say that as I sit here and write this, I am still amazed and appalled to think that anyone in the right state of mind could have the point of view that you expressed. As for the Citizen, I know that everyone is entitled to freedom of speech, but when someone makes a vile attack on a family in this situation, they should at least make that person be accountable for their opinions. " If this is america at it's best we are in trouble! One day in the paper there is an article about no jobs. Days earlier there is an article about people leaving the area. The beach and lake are a disaster and polluted with algae. The schools are so bad we need police in them. I guess other than that Auburn is a beautiful place to raise a family, if you can find work to pay the extremely high county and school taxes. And I don't need you or anyone else to tell me where to find happiness! "

" If Auburn has so much to offer, tell why is it then that the ones who praise Auburn do not actually live here. They seem to be passing thru and only see the sites that the tourist office offers them. Well maybe they should spend more time in places that will show them what AUBURN has to offer. Jobs leaving, city hall fighting amongst themselves, a police force that all of a sudden seems to be waking up only because they were threatened with layoffs, just to mention a few things. Wake up and smell the disappointments in this town. There are plenty of let downs!!!! "

" Who wants to live in a town where they gather all the really bad criminals together before releasing them -- not to where they came from, but into this community, where their criminal families and buddies move in to create a network of crime just waiting to embrace them when they get out? The so-called "hub" system may save someone money, but not the victims of the crime network it facilitates. Any town supporting 3 thrift stores and more dollar stores than I can count is hardly a healthy and fiscally well place to live. And try to get a job! Ha! Especially if you are an experienced professional -- when I was out of work I couldn't even get the temp agencies to LOOK at my resume. There were no jobs in my field, but I still needed to eat -- I could do anything, but temps wouldn't even consider me. Fell through the cracks so much that I couldn't even get welfare and lived for months on charity of friends because I could not get any assistance, despite having THREE adances degrees and a willingness to work doing anything. No, Auburn is not the employment capital of the world, and if that doesn't drive them away, the criminals will, or the taxes, or the backwardness of various services deemed baseline anywhere else. (Ever have to deal with social services in Auburn? Their gatekeeper is a nasty woman who takes pleasure in her power to be mean to people in dire straits who have no other recourse -- she has a reputation for it in neighboring communities). I'll stick to the countryside -- it has its own problems, but at least the crime and the other ugliness of city life isn't part of it.... "

" Shame on you Phyillis for your comments re: Ethan Moore and his family and shame on the Citizen for publishing the personal attack. It is beyond my understanding how you could even ask such a question. This is a family who is struggling with a life threatening illness of their precious innocent child whom they love and cherish. Thank-you to the community who has embraced this family with their support. Nobody truly knows the cost to a family, but everyone knows that insurance does not cover everything certainly not food, gas, parking fees etc. associated with treatment. To you Phyillis I say nobody asked you to support any cause if you choose not to, but don't personally attack and insult a family who endures the pain of a child with a serious illness. The support and respect of the community is what this family deserves not your ignorance. Mary Anne Chapin "
