Two Cents

People are going to gamble whether its Oneida, Buffalo, Atlantic City or Vegas etc. Why not keep the jobs and money here!
Are we supposed to stop on North Street before the white line in front of the Auburn police station or, if it is clear, can we proceed up to the traffic light? I guess I could just try it and the police will let me know if I was right.

Suffice it to say that our city councilors need to do some homework if they really feel a casino would “better” Auburn.

How about building a nursing home up to the lake as the powers that be do not want to build anything up there for today's youth, young people and families?

" Say it ain't so Mike (LeFort)!! Auburn is losing an award-winning writer - please don't tell me we'll have more political armchair quarterbacking replacing his Sunday Column On The Left. Mike was refreshingly different and a pleasure to read every Sunday. "

" I have been in Auburn over 35yrs, have a child that will be graduating next year and others on their way to finishing school. Sad to say, I have to encourage them to go else where to college and to seek work once they graduate. We once praised our city, NOW I'm sad to say "I cant wait to get out of this CIRCUS of a City and This Top Heavy State! "

" I think it's time everyone left Mayor Lattimore alone. He is trying to build Auburn back up from where Mayor Carnicelli ruined it. Also, Why is Dempsey still representing us. When he moved back to King Ferry. I think it is deplorable that 1 person can hurt a business. Mattie Street Dairy is a fantastic place. Good ice cream & great company. "

" The City is rasing everything on us property owners to trap us here. Nobody wants to live here because of the high taxes, and we cannot sell because of the high taxes, thus we are trapped to live here. "

" Accually the poll now reads that 101 yes to 179 no on the casino issue. "

" One of Auburn's finest, through the past year, invested a lot of money bringing a business back to life in Auburn. The MATTIE STREET DAIRY STORE was completely rebuilt and a parking lot made to keep cars from blocking the street on Mattie Street. Just this week he was forced to close his new and blacktopped parking lot because a neighbor on ANOTHER STREET complained the headlights on cars disturbed her. GOOD GRIEF, Auburnians, is this the way to encourage real nice new businesses and give several a place to work and many a place to get an old fashioned ice cream treat? "

" There are no jobs here unless you want prison/police/fire work. Teacers are underpaid and Bass pro did not bring all that it was hyped to bring. The real issue with the Casino is the fact that unless you are an Indian in this State you are left out of this monopoly. This is discrimination in its' purist form. But our elected legislators and soon to be out of work governor will not allow anyone else to. So we will hear how we should still allow the Casino because of the numerous jobs it will create instead of dealing with the flagrant discriminatory practices! "

" Im a fairly new home owner to auburn (5Yrs)and sad to say i may take my family south atleast thats where the jobs and lower taxes are i like auburn but between myself and my wife working we cant afford it here between the HIGH PROPERTY TAXES and GAS AND ELECTRIC i cant even feed my family "

" Its funny how this paper can criticize Lattimore, McNabb, and Graney for supporting the casino concept, while praising Smith and Dempsey. Especially since Smith and Dempesy offered nothing for any type of economic development. I also wonder if the citizen read the poll they offered the readers 129 yes 76 no. They report how the majority of speakers spoke against the cosino however, they do not speak of their own poll. Two faced to say the least. Is this how you play both sides of the fence? "

" What else does Auburn hope to get here in the city. High taxes, utilities, and water rates will drive anyone away. The city is a mess, and the school system can't seem to graduate kids on time. Maybe we pay our teachers way to much "
