Former union rep takes new AMH role
Auburn Memorial Hospital has hired the person who helped its workers negotiate contracts to be its next director of human resources.
Chad M. Hoffman will start in the position July 10. He has been an administrative organizer for SEIU Local 1199, United Healthcare Workers East. In that role, he has been a chief negotiator in contract talks with AMH management.
Hoffman downplayed the notion that his new job conflicts with his old one.
“At Auburn Memorial Hospital, there exists a true partnership between the unions and the administration,” he said in a press release.
Hoffman said he was eager to join the effort to turn around AMH's financial struggles.
In the same press release, AMH Administrator Brendan McGrath said Hoffman brings a creativity and expertise to the job.
“Chad's philosophy of the relationship between management and employees is very close to ours at AMH,” McGrath said.
Grant to aid county digester project
The Cayuga County Environmental Regional Digester will receive a $500,000 grant to aid the construction of its regional digester, U.S. Rep. Sherwood Boehlert announced Friday.
Funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Conservation Innovation Grant, the money will pay for construction of a revolutionary five-acre waste management system on the outskirts of Auburn. This will be the regional digester's first time implemented in the United States but has had superior performance in European countries. In addition to producing electricity, the regional digester will reduce odor associated with manure and cut back the detrimental nutrient loading to bodies of water.
