The Citizen staff report
Could 2006 be the year of the Killer L's?
Chris Looze recorded the first hit of the season for the Auburn Doubledays -- a single to right field in the second inning -- and Matthew Lane followed that up with a two-run home run to right field, for Auburn's first runs of the 2006 season.
The Doubledays went on to win 4-3 in the opening game of the season against the Batavia Muckdogs at Dwyer Stadium Tuesday.
Last season, the Killer P's -- Ryan Patterson, Cory Patton and Brian Pettway -- were responsible for nearly half of the Doubledays' home runs (33 of 67) and supplied an offensive boost on a nightly basis.
Looze and Lane picked up where the P's left off. They combined for three of the team's seven hits, and three of the team's four RBIs.
