not apply to Costello's
Upon reading Anne McCarthy's letter in the June 12, 2006 paper, I was compelled to write.
My question is this: Has Ms. McCarthy listened to Patty Glanville's argument that the Clean Indoor Air Act does not apply to her business?
The law was intended to “protect” employees and patrons. Employees: She has none, and patrons are (for now) free to choose which establishments they frequent.
There is no legal “right” to smoke, but it is legal to buy cigarettes, just as it is legal to buy alcohol.
I have known Patty Glanville for all of my 36 years, and I was privileged to know her parents.
Her father was a veteran who fought for our rights and freedoms - the ones which are being eroded on an almost daily basis.
I admire my Aunt Pat for standing up for what she believes in - and for what her father fought for, so many years ago.
Remember: Freedom is not free.
The government keeps infringing on our rights and personal freedoms, and it seems there are certain groups of people who are perfectly content to let the government make every choice and decision for them.
Personally, I do not want to live in that kind of fascist, totalitarian society. That is not what Joe Costello and so many other brave men and women have fought (and continue to fight) for.
As an aside, obesity is a growing problem in our country (no pun intended), and it is causing a health care crisis.
Why not regulate restaurants and food consumption by the overweight. After all, it is “for their own good.”
Thanks to brave men like Joe Costello, and courageous women like his daughter, America is the Land of the Free - let's keep it that way.
God Bless America, and my Aunt Pat.
