Cafe Yahweh, a monthly outreach to the central New York community offering coffee, snacks and live Christian music, was held Friday at Calvary Chapel of 2090 Cranebrook Drive in Auburn (across from TRW). It's a way to spread the good news of Jesus Christ through two things people love: coffee and music.
Sometimes people can feel overwhelmed in a church environment. Cafe Yahweh provides a venue in which anyone can introduce friends and family to Jesus Christ in a less formal setting. There is no admission fee, and everyone is welcome to come and relax, enjoy the live music, have a cup of coffee or cappuccino and enjoy the fellowship. Also at Calvary Chapel, a vacation Bible school will be offered this summer from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night from July 17 through 21. For more information, contact 253-5993. Special thanks to Pastor Fred Thompson and Andrew Pisciotti for sharing this news. Please keep the good news coming.

€ Our neighbors at Christ United Methodist Church on 36 Church St. in Moravia also have lots of good things happening. The church's pastor is the Rev. David Hays and morning worship will be offered at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. each Sunday, starting June 25. The time will change to 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. for the summer.

A praise service is also offered at 6:30 p.m. each Sunday. Also, Christ United Methodist Church concluded another fruitful year of Christian education on June 4 and would especially like to thank all of the dedicated teachers who showed the children so much love and taught them to love the Lord.

They are: Preschool: Jon Velazquez and Todd Younger; K-first: Shelley Sherboneau and Vicki Becker; second to third: Claude Stoker and Linda Hall; fourth to fifth: Terri Mazzacchi, Dotie Blay and Melissa Watkins; junior to senior high: Jake Souva, Kristin Wood and Dan Holodnik; adult classes: Robin Nelson and Floyd Hamilton. The music leader is Margaret Ranke.

€ The Memorial Day weekend services held at Christ United Methodist in Moravia, sounded just beautiful. The Chancel Choir presented a Memorial Day Cantata “Stars and Stripes Forever.” The Boy Scouts were present to bring in the flag, sing a patriotic song and carry out the flag at the conclusion. At the 6:30 p.m. service all of the veterans in the community were honored. At the conclusion of the cantata, they sang a medley which included all of the branches of the Armed forces. All veterans were asked to come forward as their song was sung. They also had a table with pictures of the local veterans, and everyone was encouraged to bring a photo to share. After the service, they offered cookies and punch and a time to socialize with the veterans and share the pictures.

They also celebrated with the annual Hilda Andrews/Iva Hatfield Memorial Day Barbecue on May 29, which was held at the church.

Christ United Methodist Church also participated with 440 other churches at the North Central New York annual conference (NCNY) in Liverpool on June 2 to 4. This conference is a time for unity, worship and spiritual reflection, a time to assess the effectiveness of the combined ministries and to set goals for the upcoming year. It is also a time to receive reports, celebrate achievements, act on budget proposals, set conference policy and ordain new pastors and deacons. Along with Pastor David Hays, the conference was attended by lay member Dave Wade (alternate was Kathryn Merckel), along with youth representative Cayla Wade. The conference was led by Bishop Violet Fisher and the keynote speaker for the weekend was Bishop Ann Craig, executive secretary for Spiritual and Theological Development at the missions board of the United Methodist Church.

€ St. Francis of Assisi Church on 299 Clark St. in Auburn is hosting a “St. Anthony Festa” on Tuesday. Mass will be offered at 5:30 p.m. which will include a procession with the saint's statue. Following the Mass, there will be a dinner of pasta-tubellini and elbows, which will be mixed with the individual food preparations of: ceci (ceci beans), fagioli (cannelloni beans), peas, potatoes, lenticcho, fave beans, cavoli a fiori, with salad, garlic bread and dessert. All of the food items are donated by the Saltarellos and Camardos, along with the Casamassa family, Maria Lentini, Dom Giancona, Lea Porretta and Gina Mironti.

This parish event is a get-together to enjoy the old style food and celebration of the feast of St. Anthony. A donation of $5 per person is appreciated. All donations will go to a convent or orphanage of St. Anthony.

To assist the committee in making plans for the amount of food needed, those that plan to attend are asked to call the Saltarellos at 252-7778 or the rectory from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 252-7593.

Have a good week everyone and send me your good news. Remember, God loves you so much.

“Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. Then go and do that, because the world needs people who have come alive.”
