ARTini, a cocktail party held to raise funds for the organization, was held at the Auburn Public Theater on Thursday night.
Dia Carabajal, arts council president, said the event was a general fundraiser to promote the arts in Auburn and the surrounding areas.
“Our mission is to facilitate arts and cultural events in the community in any way possible,” Carabajal said. “We have several ongoing projects, such as the restoration of the Schine Theater and our annual New Year's Festival, but the party tonight is to raise money for general funds.”
The Arts Council sponsors and coordinates events such as the Adams Foundation Classical Piano Series, and monthly exhibits of regional artists at the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce.
The rebuilding of the Schine Theater, only partially completed, is expected to be finished in 2012, Carabajal said. The doors, poster cases and marquee are nearing completion, and then the interior work will begin, she said.
Thursday's festivities included a silent auction, a performance by the Absolute Dance Company, and complimentary hors d'oeuvres provided by Premier Catering. Throughout the night, music was supplied by Auburn High School teacher Diana Jacobs.
One of the revelers at the event was Taylor Price, a musician who recently returned to Auburn from New York City.
It's good to be back in Auburn,“ he said. ”I'm here for some good music, good art and good people. Mixing and mingling is a huge part of what we do, and how we get things done, so I'd like to be a part of that,“ he added.
While Jacobs serenaded the crowd, the first hour of the event saw people socializing, snacking and bidding on the auction items.
Carabajal then welcomed the guests and spoke about the Arts Council and its mission. Following her speech, the Absolute Dance troupe gave its performance of jazz and ballet. The silent auction winners were then announced to round out the evening.
Auction items were donated by the Auburn Doubledays, the Sterling Renaissance Festival, Aurora Inn, and the Auburn Players, among others.
