Weedsport hosting French students
Locals are preparing to say “bon jour” next month to a group of young men and women visiting from France.
Some Weedsport families will host French students for three weeks next month, for a French cultural exchange program called Loisirs Culturels a l'Entranger.
The initiative, brought to Weedsport for the first time this year, serves to promote international understanding and friendship.
From July 6-26, Weedsport-area families will introduce French young men and women to American life.
Those participating in the program have been studying the English language in school.
The Weedsport liaison to the program, based in Paris, is Melissa Brown, a French teacher in the Weedsport school district.
Brown and the host families plan to organize a few group activities that are “typically American,” like roller-skating at the Reva Rollerdome, a trip to the drive-in and a “good ‘ole barbecue.”
