LIVERPOOL - The Jordan-Elbridge softball team reached all sorts of milestones last week.
So why should they start this week be any different?
The Eagles reached 20 wins in a season for the first time in school history as they earned the overall Section III, Class B title and a berth in the state tournament by beating B-2 champ Adirondack, 3-0, Sunday at Hopkins Road Field.
“This was always the goal at the beginning of the season (to be Class B champions),” Eagles coach Joe Ryan said. “And we met it. We played well.”
The win comes just four days after the Eagles earned their first sectional title in 21 years by defeating South Jefferson in the Section III, Class B-1 title game.
Unlike the win over South Jefferson, there was no pitchers' duel Sunday. Colleen Ryan threw 20 strikeouts to Adirondack's Halie Tyler's two. Ryan, who reached the 1,000th-career strikeout mark earlier this season against Christian Brothers Academy, needs one more for 300 on the season.
She gets that chance today in Cicero when Jordan-Elbridge competes in the regionals against a team from the St. Lawrence area.
