Johnson hangs on for slim victory

Special to The Citizen

WEEDSPORT - Danny Johnson drove from eighth on the grid to take the lead on lap 40 and held on for the Bill McNabb Memorial Hall of Fame Classic win Sunday night at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway. The victory was worth $6,000 to the JIR Racing Team.

Johnson held off a fast-closing Gary Tomkins who made a late-race charge from 13th to claim second place at the finish. “I've got to give credit to Jeff Isabell,” Johnson said. “I'm glad to be part of a great team, and they gave me a great car for tonight. I tried to be patient, yet aggressive, and I was able to get a good run on Fuller off the bottom of the track.
