Dennis earns ESPN academic honor
William Smith College field hockey forward Sophie Dennis (Port Byron) was named to the ESPN The Magazine At-Large Academic All-District second team. The career leader in goals and points for the Herons is a sports in society major with a minor in economics.

 A two-time NFHCA All-American, Dennis led the Liberty League with 22 goals and 13 assists for 57 points this season. She led William Smith to a 17-4 overall record, the Liberty League regular season and tournament championships. In each of the past three seasons, Dennis has been named to the NFHCA All-Region, NYSWCAA All-State, and All-Liberty League teams. The 2005 Liberty League Player of the Year, she was the 2003 conference Rookie of the Year.

 

YMCA offering girls volleyball camp

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is holding a summer volleyball camp for girls ages 12 and older from 8:30 a.m. to noon to be held from July 17-21.

Auburn High School volleyball coach Jennifer Hall will be the camp director. The fee is $35 for Y-members and $70 for the general public. Space is limited.

July soccer camp at Champions for Life

Champions for Life Sports Center is offering an Outdoor Soccer Camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this summer at Everest Park in Owasco.

The camp will be held from July 10-14, for children 12 and under, July 17-21, for ages 13-14 and July 24-28, for ages 15-17. The cost is $150 per person.

YMCA, D-days to offer baseball camp

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU and the Auburn Doubledays will be holding a baseball camp for children ages 8-15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Falcon Park on Aug. 7, 8 and 9.

Instruction will be provided by the Doubledays professional coaches and players. Camp fees are $70 for Y-members and $80 for the general public.

The cost includes three days of instruction, three lunches, a Doubledays hat and T-shirt, and three general admission tickets to Doubledays home games.

Weedsport run to be held June 3

The 13th annual Weedsport Historical Run will be held on June 3, at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds in Weedsport.

The mile run begins at 9:30 a.m. and there is no charge.

The 8K cross country run begins at 10 a.m. The race fee is $18 with no guarantee of a T-shirt.

Final Babe Ruth meeting next week

The Cayuga county Babe Ruth league will hold its final meeting Tuesday May 30, before the start of the season.

All coaches must turn in their team roster and team fee at Wayne's Computer at 7 p.m., Route 5 next to Rolling Wheels Speedway.
