They didn't play their best golf of the season, but the Union Springs boys golf team did well enough to end its regular season on a good note as they defeated Groton, 211-226, at Stone Hedges Golf Course in Groton on Friday.
Luke Patterson was the medalist of the day, shooting a 1-over-par 37. Eighth-grader Michael Bean had his best day on the course in his golfing career, turning in a 41. Nate Gavitt shot a 43, Dustin Clark turned in a 44, and Matt Cuff had a 45.

Patterson, Clark and Cuff will be competing at the Individual Section IV Tournament on Thursday at Cornell University. They earned the spots based on average scores for the season. Patterson averaged a 37, Clark a 38 and Cuff a 39.

Union Springs (11-3) also earned the right to compete in team sectionals at Maple Hill Golf Course in Marathon on May 22.
