Auburn police arrested a 55-year-old Moravia man after he attempted to flee from police in his car after creating a disturbance in a city supermarket Saturday morning.
William J. King, 3627 Keesee Road, first came in contact with police on Saturday morning after staff at Wegmans called and said King had been causing a disturbance and making “heckling-type” comments to female customers.
When officers arrived, arrangements were made for a family member at the store to take custody of King, who appeared intoxicated, and bring him home.
At 11:05 a.m., Wegmans security staff alerted police officers that King had entered a car and drove out of the parking lot.
An officer observed King traveling near South Street and Metcalf Drive and attempted to stop him. King tried to flee and a short pursuit ensued.
King eventually stopped along South Street in Fleming, and police charged him with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, driving while intoxicated, failure to comply and open container in a motor vehicle.
He was processed and held in the police department holding facility pending arraignment.
Also last weekend, A 17-year-old Auburn man was arrested early Saturday for breaking into a home on Franklin Street in April, and additional arrests related to the incident and possibly other incidents are pending.
Shane Michael Cardinale, of Quill Avenue, was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, for breaking into the Franklin Street home, where over $1,000 in cash was stolen.
A 13-year-old boy was also involved in the incident. Charges for the boy are pending in family court, said deputy police chief Thomas Murphy. Auburn police believe others may be involved, as well, and are continuing to investigate.
Police are also looking into other incidents that could be related, which could lead to further charges.
“The investigation into other crimes and other possible related crimes is continuing and additional arrests are pending,” Murphy said.
Cardinale was also charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, for the break-in on Franklin Street.
