Auburn's Horbal pitches one-hit wonder; Maroons lose

AUBURN - The Maroons' Kelly Horbal pitched a complete game one-hitter, and Auburn fell to Baldwinsville, 1-0 - the Maroons' third loss by one run. Horbal only allowed one walk, but both the hit and walk came in the seventh inning, and an error allowed the winning run to score. Horbal struck out five batters.
Amanda Daum, Brianne Raftis and Ashley Persaile each singled, Auburn's only three hits of the game.

The Maroons (6-4) play at Liverpool today.

Port Byron 9, Cato-Meridian 0

CATO - Beth Cereo allowed just three hits and struck out five for the Panthers, and she added three runs and a triple at the plate.

Kara Pitcher hit a home run, Courtney Christina had a pair of doubles, and Britney Helmer had two RBIs for the Panthers.

Ashley Thomas struck out eight and allowed seven hits and seven walks for the Blue Devils, Mariah Schmitt had two hits, and Elizabeth McDavitt added a hit as well.

Cato-Meridian (0-3, 1-6) plays at Onondaga Wednesday. Port Byron plays at Manlius Pebble Hill.

Southern Cayuga 9, Marathon 3

MARATHON - Julie Hewitt struck out five batters in just 3 1-3 innings in the Chiefs' win.

Lyndsey Doeing and Cami Willis each scored twice, Stephanie Peichuta hit a single, and Shelby Tyrrell doubled.

Southern Cayuga (5-1, 6-4) hosts Lansing Wednesday.

Jordan-Elbridge 6, Skaneateles 3

SKANEATELES - Colleen Ryan allowed three hits and fanned 15 batters, moving the Jordan-Elbridge pitcher to 927 career strikeouts. She also had two hits and three RBIs.

Rachel Graf had three hits, three runs and an RBI, and Jessica Snyder had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles.

For the Lakers, Andrea Edmunds had a hit, an RBI and a run, and Kara Buehler had a hit and two stolen bases. Alex Hughes, who had two strikeouts and two walks on the mound, added a hit.

Skaneateles (2-7) hosts Moravia Thursday.

The Eagles (7-0) host Bishop Ludden on Wednesday.

Weedsport 6, Bishop Grimes 2

WEEDSPORT - In the first game of the doubleheader, Ali Saladin led Weedsport with a triple, RBI and two runs scored. Kelsey Thompson scored one run and had two RBIs. Ashley Wilson scored one run and hit a double.

Meghan Short pitched a complete game, striking out six batters and not allowing any walks.

In the second game, Short pitched all seven innings again, but allowed five hits and one walk and had five strikeouts. Megan Henderson had an RBI and one run scored, while Saladin hit an RBI, scored one run and hit her first home run of the season.

The Warriors travel to LaFayette Wednesday.

JV SOFTBALL

Cazenovia 14, Skaneateles 2

CAZENOVIA - Caryn Crary led the Lakers with four hits.

Alyssa Tardiff had one hit, one double and an RBI.

Skaneateles hosts Westhill today.
