By St. Patrick's Church to hold barbecue

St. Patrick's Church in Cato will hold a chicken barbecue Sunday. The menu includes chicken, baked beans, rolls, pies and macaroni, potato and cabbage salads. Only takeouts will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adults are $6.50 with half orders for $4 and children under 12 are $3.50.
The Rev. Shaw honored by Scouts

At its annual adult recognition dinner held this month, the Rochester Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting recognized the Rev. Dennis Shaw with the Bronze Pelican Emblem.

Father Shaw is pastor of Holy Family parish in Auburn. He was honored for creating a new Boy Scout troop, chartered to Holy Family as an outreach to the neighborhood.

Meridian leads day of prayer

Thursday, May 4, marks the 55th celebration of the National Day of Prayer.

The Meridian Baptist Church, Route 370 in Meridian, will host this year's event at 7 p.m. The Rev. Richard D. Olmstead plans to address the congregation. Several members of the community churches will form a choir specifically for this prayer service. Contact Scott Myers at 626-6865 if you are interested in participating.

Radio host to attend women's retreat

Brenda Gay Shumaker, a national radio host, will hold a demonstration, “Designs for Living,” a women's retreat from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6, at the Moravia Baptist Church, 37-39 Church St.

Shumaker hosts “Designs for Joyful Living,” a two-minute daily devotional radio program which combines her knowledge of interior design with the word of Jesus Christ.

The retreat will begin with check-in and continental breakfast. A catered lunch and a craft are included. Shumaker will give a home decorating demonstration with a question and answer period afterward.

Church collects used items for mission

Sacred Heart Church, working with St. Pauly Mission, has a used clothing drop-off box. It is located in the rear of the east parking lot near the garages. All clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, pillowcases and drapes are accepted. Please put in tied plastic bags.

St. Pauly Mission provides useable clothing to people who can use it, both here in the United States and in third world countries.

Requests taken for free home repair

Applications are now being accepted at SS. Peter and John Church for free home repairs next summer. Low income, elderly or disabled Auburn area homeowners are invited to complete an application for interior or exterior painting, step or porch repair, weatherization or mobile home underpinning.

Labor and material will be free to qualifying households. The repairs will be done July 30 through Aug. 6 by volunteers from Group Workcamps.
