Corcoran edges Auburn lacrosse

SYRACUSE - Jake Conway and Mike Fandrich led Auburn with a goal and an assist apiece, but Corcoran topped Auburn, 6-4, in a boys lacrosse game Tuesday.
The Maroons led in ground balls, 28-18, but lost nine of 14 faceoffs and trailed 23-18 in shots.

Adam Clary and Jack Redmond each had a goal, while Joe Taylor and Matt Chadderdon handed out assists.

Auburn (2-8, 1-4) hosts Cicero-North Syracuse Thursday.

BASEBALL

Bishop Grimes 6, Port Byron 2

SYRACUSE - The Panthers' Tab Carmon went 2-for-4 with a double and Mitch David pitched four innings, allowing only six hits and five earned runs. Kent Pitcher threw two shutout innings of relief.

Port Byron's Nick Janusz had a single and a stolen base, Keven Casler had a single, two stolen bases and a run, and Jake Bennett had a single, a sacrifice and an RBI. Mitch David also drove in a run for the Panthers.

The Panthers offense couldn't come up with key hits but the defense was solid, turning two double plays in the game.

Port Byron (1-6) plays Tully Wednesday.

JUNIOR VARSITY SOFTBALL

Skaneateles 13, Onondaga 10

SKANEATELES - Emily Ross pitched a complete game and struck out five as the Lakers defeated Onondaga for the first time in five years.

Alyssa Tariff (two hits, triple, three RBIs), Caryn Crary (two hits, two stolen bases) and Zoe Hilpl (one hit, two RBIs) each contributed offensively for Skaneateles.

The Lakers (3-1) play at Marcellus Thursday.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Groton 87, Moravia 35

GROTON - Pat Nevius won the 200M (25.8) as the Blue Devils couldn't take advantage of an undermanned Groton squad.

Bobby Sovocool took first in the discus (101-9) and Logan Crandall finished first in the shot put (38-2.75).

Moravia (2-5) hosts Union Springs, Southern Cayuga and Weedsport at the Moravia Relays this Saturday.
