As supervisor Merrill Badman, councilor Art Richardson, bookkeeper Richard Bryant, code enforcement officer Gerald VeVone and town attorney Ricky Galbato, continue addressing strategic visions in establishing a framework for how they want to address town business via efficient operations in the future, the ongoing tactical, day-to-day routine and plans for activities for a busy summer season move forward.
Updates to the town Web site are in the works as Lonna Vrooman will be making changes to the site with current and expanded information.
For access to the town Web site, go to www.cayuga.co.ny.us/owasco. On the site you can access contact information for elected town officials, departments and personnel, access and download forms for variances, building/zoning permits, etc. view a calendar of scheduled meetings, service schedules, town reports and much more.
The Highway department has begun resuming brush pick up which runs from April through October on the first Monday of each month.
The town has a full slate of summer activities planned. Included is the summer swim program, which is held in cooperation with the YMCA-WEIU.
This program offers summer swimming at a cost of $10 per child or $25 for three or more children per family. Swim lessons will be given Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. from July 10 through July 31. You can call or stop by the town hall for more information and a registration form.
Please note that the deadline for registrations to be submitted is June 26.
In addition, the summer programs at the Owasco playgrounds will begin on June 26.
The hours of operation at the town hall playground are from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The hamlet playground will have supervision from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
Once again this upcoming year, playground directors will have a full slate of activities lined up to entertain and educate children from kindergarten through sixth grade.
Children can look forward to helping to decorate and ride on the town float in the Fourth of July parade, as well as, enjoying scavenger hunts, pizza parties and many more activities sure to burn some of that surplus energy which we adults so wish we had more of.
Again this summer the town will sponsor a library program for the children at the Owasco Elementary School Library. Dates are still to be announced and the Town Hall will be able to provide details at a later date.
The hours will be flexible allowing the children to either stay for the entire three hours or come and go during this time.
Residents wanting to participate in town activities have plenty of opportunities as volunteers and can take their pick of becoming involved in a planned history club, playground facility's study group, as well as the new citizens committee, which will work together with the assessor during the assessment process.
Those interested in becoming involved can contact town hall for further information.
