SYRACUSE - Kelley Horbal tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out nine batters as Auburn defeated league foe West Genesee 3-0 in a softball game Friday.

The Maroons' Gabe Palmieri led the defense with nine put-outs while right fielder Amanda Daum threw out a runner at first base. The Auburn defense committed no errors on the day.

Michelle Grassi, Susie Jakaub and Daum (double) supplied the only three hits of the day but took advantage of two West Genesee errors to score three runs. Palmieri added an RBI for the Maroons.

Auburn (5-3) plays at Rome on Monday.

BASEBALL

Cato-Meridian 11, LaFayette 3

SYRACUSE - Tim Pierce led the Blue Devils on the mound and at the plate. Pierce struck out 11 batters in five innings and connected on a two-run home run.

Cato-Meridian hosts Weedsport Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

Watertown IHC 10, Auburn 8

AUBURN - Joe Taylor led the Maroons with three goals while Matt Hoey, Derek Anderson, Matt Chadderdon, Rob Steigerwald and Jack Redmond each scored once.

Hoey added two assists while Redmond and Mike Fandrich had one assist apiece.

The Maroons led in shots, 34-24, and ground balls, 35-32. Pat Cameron had 11 saves.

Auburn (2-7, 1-2) travel to Corcoran Tuesday.

BOYS GOLF

Cazenovia 204, Skaneateles 215

CAZENOVIA - Jeff Mayo led the Lakers (0-2) with a 40 and Mike Lemp carded a 41.

Skaneateles (0-2) hosts Bishop Ludden Monday.
