Aurelius project ready to start

With two more hurdles cleared this week, construction work on the proposed Fingerlakes Crossing shopping complex in Aurelius is expected to start any day.
The town on Tuesday issued a building permit to the first and only tenant announced at this point, Home Depot, according to town zoning and building inspector John Greer.

The home improvement retailer is building a 132,000-square-foot store at the site, making it the largest store planned.

The entire shopping center project consists of 10 buildings encompassing roughly 400,000-square-feet of retail space.

Greer said the town also issued water and sewer line permits on Tuesday to the developer of the 46-acre site, Cameron Group LLC.

Cameron officials have been preparing the site for Home Depot's construction team to take over.

They have targeted the fall for an opening of that store. At this point, Cameron has not confirmed the names of any other tenants at the site.

Greer said Home Depot is the only company to apply for a building permit so far.

Earlier this week, the Aurelius Planning Board approved a portion of the project that had not been in the original site plan.

Using parcels it purchased from the owners of a commercial metal salvage business at the site, Cameron will build a second point of access to the site across from the main entrance to the Fingerlakes Mall. To accommodate its current size, plans call for 4 1/2 parking spaces per 1,000 square feet of commercial space, similar to the parking requirement for the Fingerlakes Mall.
