A 29-year-old Auburn man was arrested by Auburn city police Wednesday morning on statutory rape charges involving a 15-year-old female runaway.
Glen D. Helmer, of Apt. 3A2, Prospect Pointe Apartments, 131 Prospect St., faces the felony charges of two counts of third-degree rape, two counts of third-degree criminal sex act and the misdemeanor charges of third-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of the child and second-degree criminal contempt.
Officers from the Auburn Police Department responded to a report of a 15-year-old girl staying with an older man at the apartment complex.
The girl later told police she was staying at Helmer's apartment and “further sex crimes were taking place,” police said.
The relationship was continuing in violation of a stay-away order given in a pending sexual offense case in Throop Town Court. Cayuga County Sheriff's Deputies originally arrested Helmer in that case.
The girl was taken into custody by a family member.
Helmer was arraigned in Auburn City Court Wednesday afternoon.
