Cars and cattle?

The New York State Fairgrounds will be buzzing with activity throughout the beginning of April.
Classic car enthusiasts should bring their bibs and their dreams for the IASC Custom and Classic Car and Trade Show to be held at the Verizon Center of Progress Buildings Friday through Sunday.

This is the largest indoor custom and classic car show in the state, celebrating its sweet 16 anniversary this year, sponsored by SAVES Autobody.

According to show officials Bob and Carmella Hoffman, this year's show will include many new national and local antique and custom classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. Vendors on site will offer a variety of goods from car-related products to jackets, hats, models and more.

Part of the entertainment will be Tucci Engineering's newest creation, the hot rod, customized motor home that the Syracuse Nationals will be giving away.

SAVES Autobody will have technicians on hand to answer any questions. Infinite Audio, an associate sponsor of the show, will also be available to answer questions. As always, the show will also feature the annual Cruisin, sponsored by WSEN Oldies 92 FM.

Come Tuesday, cows will take the place of cars until April 14, when the New York State Spring Dairy Carousel comes to the Cargill Exhibit Center at the Coca Cola Coliseum.

Nearly 1,000 animals representing all of the major dairy breeds, including Ayreshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Jersey, milking shorthorn and the old favorite, the black and white Holstein, will travel to the fairgrounds from across the United States for one of the largest and most highly-regarded spring dairy cattle events in North America.

Patricia Gifford, executive director of the New York Holstein Association, said this show has gained in stature through the years to become what is regarded as the highest quality show with the most animals at any spring dairy show in the country.

Last year, participants came from 16 states to participate. Gifford encourages those interested in watching to come April 13 and 14. On Thursday are the protein breed shows and Friday is the large Holstein show.

Even if you're not a dairy breeder or enthusiast, these are beautiful animals that are ultimately clean, soft and friendly, Gifford said. “For us, it's a business and a high-end show but it's a fun thing, too, if people want to come.
