Health Fair keeps children in check

By Mena Hansinger

Saturday, March 25, 2006 12:15 AM EST

Mark your calendars for the annual Auburn YMCA Health Fair and Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 1 from 8 to 11 am. We will again have free cholesterol testing, as well as blood pressure checks and joint integrity testing.
There will be a number of booths with many areas of medical interest offered. There will be a kids#, fun run and also games and activities for children. All of this is free and open to the public, thanks in part to sponsorship by The Citizen and financial support from Senator Mike Nozzolio.

A complete listing of all participants will be in the upcoming weeks.

Be sure if you are planning to have your blood tested that you fast for at least 12 hours prior to the test.

Refreshments and healthy snacks will be provided.

Something new is coming to the Progressive Swim Program.

Once you complete the requirements in the swim category that you are in, the participants will receive a patch that can be put on jackets, sweatshirts or anywhere. What a great way to show off your achievements in swimming.

Sean McCleod, director of NYIDE is collaborating with the Auburn YMCA to present two different dance workshops for adults. The first workshop will be on Wednesday, April 5 from 8 to 9 p.m. in the aerobics room. Sean will be teaching swing dance instruction. On Wednesday, April 19, from 8 to 9 p.m., Sean will be offering a Spring Bridal Dance Workshop.

This will be an introduction to wedding dance survival for all of those who want to make a big impression with their first dance at their wedding or for all of their guests. There will be further information and fees at the desk, or call 253-5304.

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU will hold its annual meeting Wednesday, March 29 at noon, at the Springside Inn. Featured speaker will be Helene Dillard, director of Cornell Cooperative Extension talking on Ways to Wellness. Reservations may be made through Dixie Warner Webert at the YMCA, 253-5304.

Hansinger is the assistant fitness director at the Auburn YMCA
