HIT: To the growth of the Finger Lakes region's wine industry, which has been documented in a recent study from the New York Wine & Grape Foundation.
The development of working wineries along the banks of our lakes is drawing more visitors to this area every year, and even though the Cayuga County side of Cayuga Lake still has far fewer wineries than the west bank, many of those tourists are still coming here to dine, shop and stay the night.
MISS: To the delay in the development of a disc golf course in Emerson Park.
The county Legislature's Public Works Committee this week voted to table approval for the course's construction after a couple of park neighbors expressed concerns. While resident input should be considered for this project, course designers have already made some changes based on their concerns about it being too close to their properties.
Ultimately, people who live next to public parks need to understand that they have to put up with some pedestrian traffic near their homes. The tradeoff is being able to live next to one of the most beautiful spots in this county.

The performance, a wonderful gift to the community from the Italian Heritage Society, was made even more special because members of local high school bands got a chance to perform. With more than 50 instrumentalists and singers, the Navy Band is known as one of better concert bands in the world.
The band's rousing repertoire of songs delighted the audience at the East Middle School Emerson Auditorium
