“I live and breathe music when I'm not working my day job,” said Jim Andrews, drummer and vocalist for Auburn band The Disclaimers who will play at the Ukrainian National Club on Friday.
The power trio, consisting of Auburn natives Andrews on vocals and drums, Alvin Andersen on lead guitar and George VanderVeer on bass guitar, knows how to rock the house on a Friday night with its blues-twisted, classic rock sound. From Eric Clapton to Stevie Ray Vaughn, to the sharp-dressed men of ZZ Top, The Disclaimers cover it all - even some southern rock, including Skynyrd.
Often compared to Led Zeppelin with its heavy sound, The Disclaimers make sure “it's at least semi-danceable” for the crowd, according to Andrews.
Andrews and Andersen have jammed in bands together on and off for 20 years, and VanderVeer came on the scene three years ago when The Disclaimers started.
All are from Auburn and have no plans to leave. Fans of The Disclaimers will be happy to know they plan to release some originals soon and to update their sound in a studio.
On lead guitar, Andersen is well known in the area for his talent, especially his solos - imagine Zeppelin up close and personal at the UNC.
“I'm no fool, I know who to stay with,” Andrews said. Much like the beginning of the legendary Jimmy Page who by chance picked up a Spanish acoustic guitar at a tender age and never looked back, The Disclaimers just found each other, started jamming, sounded great and have been going with it ever since.
