Harlequin Productions of Cayuga Community College opens
a quartet of one-act plays this
weekend, the final production
in the college theater before a substantial renovation project.
“Gender Wars: An evening of Theater/ 4 One-act Plays” consists of short works by playwrights John Morogiello (“Men and Parts” and “Fashion Sense”) and Jay Huling (“Insert Laugh Here” and “Elvis of Nazareth.”)
From women in a bar discussing breasts, legs and men, to men in a bar discussing breasts, legs and women, to customer relations in the world of haute couture, to
The King being visited by biblical patriarchs, the plays skewer a broad range of pop culture targets.
Director Bob Frame consistently chooses plays that challenge both his casts and his audiences.
“If the actors don't have someone else's performance to fall back on,” he said, “they have no choice but to create the characters on their own, which is exactly what I want them to do, construct fresh, unique performances.”
That, in turn, can translate into a singular experience.
The cast features: Janelle Ryan, Lisa Rood, Jeff Knight, Tim Meyers, Amanda Hollister, Nicole Best,
Alissa Gristwood, Patrick Graham, Rachael Gentner, Joe Pine,
Debbi Heller, Tim Monnin, Jeffrey Littlejohn, Tyler Peryea and
Dustin Young. Stage manager for the production is Erin Smith.
