Man charged with assaulting officer
A 31-year-old Auburn man was charged with second-degree assault for punching a police officer early Sunday morning.
Patrick Scott Sweeting, 26 Grant St., was tracked down by Auburn police at about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday to a residence on Rock Avenue after he had been accused of making threatening calls to a resident on Pulaski Street. The resident had a order of protection against Sweeting.
When an officer attempted to arrest Sweeting, police said he punched the officer in the chest and face repeatedly, causing the officer to fall. The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
