Canal trail needs new slogan, logo
An area trail organization is asking the public's help in finding a logo and a slogan to help identify and promote its mission.
The Canalway Trails Association New York wants to promote the canalway trail along the Erie, Cayuga-Seneca, Champlain and Oswego Canals. The trail sees walkers, bicycle riders and cross-country skiers availing themselves of this tourism destination.
People should submit their ideas in black-and-white or color-on-white on 8 1/2- by 11-inch paper. Logo and slogan suggestions should accompany one another. The deadline for entries is April 10.
Entries can be mailed to Fran Gotcsik, Parks & Trails New York, 29 Elk St., Albany, NY 12207, faxed to (518) 434-1583 or e-mailed to ctanylogo@ptny.org. Copies of all entries should be sent to Doris Wolf, CTANY president, 1229 Birdsey Road, Waterloo, NY 13165.
Winners will be announced at an award ceremony on June 3.
Artist's work can be viewed at reception
The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce invites the public to a reception for Auburn artist Scott Young from 3 to 5 p.m. March 3. The building will have Young's landscapes on view March 1-31.
Scott's paintings and drawings celebrate the rural life of central New York. The artist spent his early years on a farm near Poplar Ridge; he frequently features barns in his work. Working in pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, gouache, pastel and oil, Scott said he feels provoked to “document these rural monuments before they are all gone.”
The artist is represented by the Lincoln Gallery in Auburn. For more on this and future exhibits, contact Tom Hussey at 253-5288 or the Cayuga County Arts Council Web site at www.cayuganet.org/arts.
