Man arrested for robbery attempt
A 23-year-old Syracuse man was arrested by Auburn police on several charges, following a robbery attempt in Auburn last month and an earlier shoplifting incident.

Floyd J. Chaviz, 132 Harvard Place, Apt. 2, Syracuse, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and has been charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree attempted robbery, third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle, petit larceny and second-degree obstructing government administration.

According to Auburn police, on Jan. 17, Chaviz unlawfully entered a home at 1 Franklin St., attempted to rob the victim and took her car. There was also an old warrant out for Chaviz stemming from a shoplifting incident at Wegman's in Auburn, leading to the petit larceny charge. Chaviz attempted to prevent police officers from searching him on Sunday, which led to the obstructing government administration charge. He has been remanded to the Cayuga County Jail.
