Northeastern Sports Show starts today
The 53rd Northeastern Sports Show will be held today through Sunday, Jan. 29 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
Gates are open from noon to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission is $8 for adults and $3 for children.
Top outdoor professionals will present 22 seminars throughout the three days covering deer and turkey hunting, fishing, dog training as well as wildlife management.

Bass Pro to hold Lake Ontario seminar
Bass Pro Shops Sportsman's Center is having a Salmon Fishery, Cut Bait & Flies Lake Ontario Outdoor Skills Workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
Bass Pro Shops staff member Tony Buffa will teach the class where participants can learn how to use cutbait and flies efficiently.
The class is free and will be held upstairs over the mall food court.
Pre-registration is not necessary.

DEC offering wildlife rehabilitator course
DEC has scheduled the free Wildlife Rehabilitator written exam to become a licensed volunteer wildlife rehabilitator for 10 a.m. on Friday, April 14. Pre-registration is required, and the deadline is March 24.
The two-hour exam is offered only once a year and will be held at designated locations across the state. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and will need to submit two character references. Applicants will go through an interview process with DEC regional wildlife staff. Convictions of the State Environmental Conservation Law are a bar to taking the exam.
A study guide and an examination manual to teach applicants about the practice of wildlife rehabilitation are available for $15. For additional information, call DEC at 518-402-8985 or write to: NYSDEC, Special Licenses Unit, 625 Broadway, Albany, New York 12233-4752.
