The search for a 61-year-old man who wandered off from a Weedsport adult care facility was called off Thursday.
The last substantiated sightings of Alan Broder were on Tuesday afternoon on Oakland and Compton Roads in Brutus between 2:30 and 5:15 p.m.
About 70 searchers, both volunteer crews from regional search and rescue teams and law enforcement officers, combed a four-square-mile area northwest of Evergreen Heights Adult Care Facility on Oakland Road for three days.
The lead that Broder was seen at the Pilot Truck Stop in Liverpool Tuesday night was unsubstantiated, Cayuga County Sheriff Rob Outhouse said.
“We've exhausted our leads. We've exhausted our manpower and our canines pounding the ground out there.” he said.
Without new information, law enforcement is left hoping that Broder found a “safe haven,” Outhouse said.
Tips
Alan Broder is 5 foot, 11 inches and weighs 224 pounds. He is balding, has gray hair, hazel eyes and a gray beard. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 253-1222.
