Epstein continues to raise bar

ITHACA - Kerrin Epstein finished first in the 3000m with a school record 11:20.5 as the Moravia indoor track and field team competed in the His & Hers Invitational at Cornell University on Friday.
Pat Nevius set two new school records for the boys, running a 26.1 in the 200-meter dash and finishing with a 58.1 in the 400m.

Emily Dusseau also set a school record for the Moravia girls team with a 1:06.6 in the 400m.

The Blue Devils' Megan Benson took first place in the 1500m race-walk (9:29.5) and Amber Murphy finished second in the shot put (30-10).

Bobby Sovocool placed fourth in the shot put (41-4) while the girls' 3200m relay team finished sixth (11:35.5). Members of the relay team include Epstein, Gabe Chiddy, Samantha Lorah and Marcia Eshleman.

Moravia competes Friday at Cornell.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bishop Grimes 72, Port Byron 62

SYRACUSE - Misty Cook led the Panthers with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Mallory Jakaub scored 15 points and had five assists, and Courtney Dare added 11 points and four assists in the loss.

Weedsport 62, Fabius Pompey 28

SYRACUSE - All 11 Warriors scored points in the victory, and Jessica Hoffman led the way with 13. Markie Kreplin scored 12 points, and Allie Beardsley chipped in with 11.

WRESTLING

Skaneateles Dual Meet Tournament

Auburn, first place

Skaneateles, third place

SKANEATELES - The Auburn Maroons were champions of the tournament, defeating Fayetteville-Manlius (60-18), Lafayette (49-12), Cazenovia (38-35) and Skaneateles (50-21).

Mike Remauro (189) was named the Maroons' most outstanding wrestler winning all four matches - three of them by pin.

PJ Giacona (119), Zac Darling (125), Jason Szczepanski (140), Kevin Farrar (152) and Nick Prentice (160) went 4-0 on the day. Ivan Servais went 3-1.

For the Lakers, John Dougherty (145) was Skaneateles' most outstanding wrestler going 4-0. Chad Gray (103) went 3-1, Thane Green (152) went 2-1, and George Dobrovosky (189), Matt Blake (215), Josh Youle (112) and Travis Blum all went 2-2.

The Maroons (17-7) host Central Square on Thursday for senior night.

The Lakers host Onondaga Wednesday.

VOLLEYBALL

Tully 3, Cato-Meridian 0

CATO - Grace Opderbeck had two aces, six kills, two blocks and an assist as the Blue Devils fell 25-9, 25-18 and 25-22.

Other top performers for Cato-Meridian were Claire Stryker (one ace, one block, nine assists), Jessica Wilkins (one kill, one block), Kaitlin Holt (two kills, three blocks) and Marianne Hirsh (one ace, one kill).
