The 2005 Oscar Smith High School football team, located in Chesapeake, Va., and coached by Auburn native Richard Morgan, recently completed another championship season.
Morgan led his Tigers to a second straight undefeated regular season and second consecutive Southeastern District championship. Morgan's gridders advanced to the state quarterfinals where they lost a heartbreaking 20-13 decision to the seventh-ranked team in the country.
The Tigers finished 11-1 and were once again well represented in postseason honors. A total of 16 players were named to the all-district squad, eight made all-region and three of the Smith's varsity players made all-state.
Oscar Smith has won 24 consecutive regular games, dating back to the 2003 season. Morgan was named Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year for the third year in a row.
Morgan's Tigers has compiled a record of 38 wins and only six losses since he took over the varsity coaching position in 2002.
Rich and his wife Marie live in Virginia Beach with their three children: Breanna, Alexis and Luke.

January is a busy month for the Auburn Community-Owned Baseball Corporation. So far, even the weather has cooperated. However, we know the snow and low temperatures aren't far away.
At the annual meeting of the nine-member board of directors last Monday, officers were re-elected for the coming season. Tom Ganey is CEO; Leo Pinckney, president and league representative; Bill Ellis, vice president; James Hutchinson, treasurer; David Daum, secretary.
General manager Carl Gutelius reported advertising sales have gone well to begin the year. Season ticket sales have reached a high of 289.
Gutelius said one of the projects under consideration is a new scoreboard that will have a message center. He listed several other improvements the board will consider prior to the opening of the season. The Doubledays will open the 2006 season at home on June 21 against the Batavia Muckdogs.
The highlight of the month will be the annual Hot Stove dinner set for next Friday at the Sunset Restaurant. Gutelius expects a sellout crowd for the event, which will feature the appearance of Russ Adams, shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays who started his pro baseball career with the Auburn Doubledays in 2002 and in two seasons was in the majors.
Dennis Holmberg, returning as manager for a fifth season, will speak at the dinner along with Charlie Wilson, manager of minor league operations for Toronto. Aaron Bulkley of Port Byron who played for the Houston Astros' team at Tri-Cities of the New York-Penn League last season will be a guest.
Holmberg and Bulkley will conduct a baseball clinic for youngsters ages 10-15 on Jan. 26 and 28 at the D-days batting tunnel at Falcon Park.
A baseball autographed by Hank Aaron will be among the many major league items available during the silent auction starting at 5:30 p.m. Another special attraction will be four tickets to a New York Yankees game.
