WEEDSPORT - Twelve 700 matches, a 300 game, a 299 game, and a 237 triplicate series were shot by 10 different bowlers while one former champion and runner-up remained unbeaten in the winners' bracket as the field was trimmed down to 24 bowlers in the 2006 Men's Citizen Masters at Rainbow Lanes in Weedsport.

In the losers' bracket matches at 11 a.m., John Rovelli and 2004 runner-up and this year's high qualifier Brian Storrs were locked up in the highest scoring match of the day. Rovelli started out with a 300 game to Storrs' 245 for a 55-pin lead. Storrs won the second and third games 226-224 and 258-218, but it was not enough to overcome the first-game deficit as Rovelli won a thriller, 744-727.
Paul Samasuck (1977 champion) fired games of 244-235-257 for 736 to defeat Chris Plis' 580. Brandon Slayton rolled games of 256-244-226 for 726 to eliminate Bill Gentilcore who rolled a 604. Mike Walker II shot a 237 triplicate for 711 to beat Jerry Marciniec (599).
Mike Ryan (2004 champion) had games of 246-216-257 for 719 to hand J.T. Locastro his second loss with 625, 1986 champion Pete Bommersbach got by 1995 runner-up Phil Perkins, 668-645, and 1984 runner-up Bill Sidor won a high-scoring match over Jerry Locastro, 691-653.
In the closest match of the day, Bill Holmes had a five-pin lead (413-408) over Dave Dec going into the final game and held on for a two-pin victory (613-611) when Dec won the third game 203-200.
Mike Crowley (1993 runner-up) trailed Jeff Lumb after two games by 53 pins, 471-418, but rallied to win the third game 213-156 for a four-pin victory. Tom Caci II trailed Bubby Triska by 59 pins after two games, 418-359, but won the third game 267-193 for a 626-611 win.
Jeff Matty won big over Geary Gioia, 683-508, Gary Fedigan defeated Mike Maltese, 674-608, Carman McGriff eliminated Jim Casbarro, 666-630, and Jim Locastro beat Mark Hlywa, 656-613.
Don Johnson trailed Greg Walczyk after two games by 33 pins (381-348) but won the third game big, 233-154, for a 581-535 win, and Sean Hoey stopped Jamie Cordway, 645-590.
In the losers' bracket at 2 p.m., Walker fired a 299 opening game and followed it up with 211 and 223 for 733 to defeat Brandon Slayton's 576.
Ryan shot games of 268-236-244 for 748 and eliminated Caci II with 593. Both Walker and Ryan shot two 700 matches on Saturday.
Crowley had games of 235-210-268 for 713 to hand Sidor his second loss.
Crowley trailed Sidor after two games by 28 pins, 473-445, but won the third 268-171 for the win. Bommersbach shot games of 180-267-258 for 705 to beat John Rovelli's 654. Bommersbach had trailed Rovelli by 15 pins after two 462-447, but won the third 258-192 for the victory.
Don Johnson got by Matty 659-654, Fedigan stopped Holmes 654-561, Samasuck defeated Hoey 586-531, and Jim Locastro held on to beat McGriff 576-559.
In the winners' bracket at 2 p.m., Steve Suslik shot games of 209-257-238 for 704 to hand defending champion Bill Kuszaj his first loss with 623. Ted Phillips bowled 205-246-258 for 709 to send Bill Canino to the losers' bracket with 634.
Tom Knapp (1994 runner-up) won over Mel Tweed, Jr. 670-579, 2001 champion Lou Tabone stopped 1988 champion Mike Wilczek, 601-534, and Scott Bodner defeated Dennis Walawender, 645-527.
Steve Gardner beat Jason Horbal, 634-573, and Dan Johnson rolled 600 and won by forfeit when Tim Hlywa was sent to New York City by his job this week to help with the emergency conditions caused by wind damage and was unable to get back for Saturday's match.
Steve Walawender trailed 1998 runner-up Don Paquette by seven pins after two (371-364) but pulled out a 589-574 victory when he won the third game, 225-203.
Samasuck, Ryan, Crowley, Jim Locastro, Don Johnson, Fedigan, Bommersbach, and Walker II each won two straight matches on Saturday at Rainbow Lanes to stay alive in the losers' bracket.
