HIT: It may unsettle a few children reading Hits & Misses today, but Santa is alive and well and at the Cayuga County Jail.
No, he wasn't picked up for speeding with his sleigh through Owasco.
A Baldwinsville 4-year-old's letter to Santa somehow wound up arriving at the Cayuga County Jail this holiday season. And instead of just sending it on to the post office or returning it to sender, deputies at the jail took the time to not only send Gillian Gipe a reply from Santa, but they also enclosed a gift card as a present.
And the spirit of Christmas didn't stop there. Gillian donated half of the amount of the gift card to a needy family in the Baldwinsville area.
“We were just trying to brighten a little girl's day,” said Lt. John Mack.
It was one of the best stories of this holiday season.
MISS: Oh, no they didn't.
Although we know them better than to believe they are obsessed with their own self-importance, Auburn's two new councilors both referred to themselves in the third person while giving speeches Sunday during their swearing-in ceremonies.
In declarations usually reserved for pompous athletes and entertainers, both Matt Smith and Bill Graney delivered speeches Sunday at Memorial City Hall in which they referred to themselves by their full names.
“What Bill Graney is going to bring is an open mind, trust, respect and pride,” pronounced Graney.
“What Matt Smith can bring to this position of city councilor is my passion, my love and my dedication to the people of the city,” Smith said.
Whatever happened to “what I am going to bring ... ?”
Their inauguration speeches must have been written by Mayor Tim Lattimore, who often replaces the word ‘I' with ‘the mayor.'
Maybe it's something in the unfluoridated water?
Ah well ... if that's the worst that comes out of city hall over the next year, it will be a splendid year indeed.
